The University of KwaZulu-Natal aspires to be a Premier University of African scholarship. To carry forward this vision, as well as the mission and strategic plan, the Quality Promotion and Assurance (QPA) office leads quality assurance and institutionally supports the University’s integrated quality management system across the core academic functions of teaching and learning, research, community engagement and in professional services. QPA works jointly with the University’s leadership, peers, students and external role players in pursuit of deliberate and systematic strategies for quality enhancement. Internationally and nationally, university leadership and staff members are increasing becoming conscious of the importance of achieving and maintaining quality as an on-going necessity in their work, making it a key component in modern university life. The QPA office is fundamental to driving and advancing that quality process.
The Quality Promotion & Assurance Unit was established in 2004 after the merger between the University of Durban Westville Quality Management Unit and the University of Natal Quality Promotion Unit. The purpose of this merger was in alignment with the College model adopted by the university, thereby providing a centralized office responsible for providing support to the Schools and act as a resource to the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal (UKZN) on all quality related matters.You have reached the Homepage of Quality Promotion & Assurance at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
The 2024 SAAIR Quality Forum will be hosted by the University of KwaZulu Natal (UKZN). The theme developed by SAAIR and UKZN is, “Beyond the margins: Redefining and transforming practice for contextually relevant quality assurance in higher education”. The Quality Forum will be hosted as an in-person event at the Gateway Hotel in Durban.
The Quality Institute is specifically aimed at Quality Practitioners in Higher Education Institutions but is open to all individuals who have an interest in quality and quality enhancement in higher education. The Institute intends to create platforms for collaborative engagement on quality-related issues to improve planning, management, and decision-making within institutions and in the sector.
Programmes registered by SAQA on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) in 2023 and 2024 which form part of the UKZN Programme and Qualification Mix (PQM):
